Lochlyn Hill

So happy to have you here, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville!

"Construction is progressing at Lochlyn Hill's new mixed-income neighborhood. For the past few months, Habitat homebuyers have been working together with community volunteers and Habitat staff to build their homes from the ground up. As we've transitioned into the fall season, the exterior of each house is nearly complete, and families are excited to begin working on the inside of their homes.

As the homes continue to evolve, so do the relationships between new community members.

"I feel like the Lochlyn Hill neighbors have already created such genuine bonds," said Ken Jollofsky, a Habitat construction supervisor. "They really like each other. They often write encouraging messages back and forth on the exterior walls, so families look forward to finding these notes when they come out for their build shift. And they're so enthusiastic about the construction process, which brings out good feelings in everyone."

For Holly Shelton, who has been working with her husband Damon to construct their home in the Lochlyn Hill neighborhood, the building process has been very rewarding. "Our new neighbors are an amazing group of individuals that come from so many different backgrounds and walks of life. I am glad to have the opportunity to build relationships with them prior to moving in. I think that will create a stronger community and support system for us all. And it's been incredibly rewarding to build the actual home that we will live in."
